Topic: Can Mormons be Christian?
I would like to raise this question because Christians seem to be spilt on this issue.

I just made a new friend in the United States (who is Thai) who is Mormon. Although I don't agree with everything he believes, he seems to have the basics of Christianity down well.

1. He believes that Jesus died on the cross for us.

2. He believes that it makes one happy after that person repents of his/her sin and becomes free of it.

3. He believes that prayer is important and he actually came to his faith when he talked to God.

I don't know him that well, but he spiritually encourages me. I'm not saying to be Mormon. I'm saying, "Can we welcome Mormons as brothers and sisters in the Lord?"

I'm curious for your opinion on the matter. This would seem to apply to Catholics too. They seem to be wrong about believing that Mary was sinless, but I know that Catholics can be Christian in my heart. I'm just not sure about Mormons yet.

Thank you for reading this post!

God Bless,
Daniel

Daniel,

I've once met a Mormon who returned to Christ and started coming to our church. She couldn't explain what it was exactly. She just said she was like a lost sheep for years. Can you explain in what they believe that is different to us?

I always count Catholics as brothers and sisters in Christ but not sure about Mormons.

As of a friend, I think we can be friend with anybody as God might be using us for bringing the salvation to them.

God bless..

I know one man who was Mormon, and he left it.

He said:

1-We didn't believe in 2 testaments, but 3. The 3rd one was written by a little kid who used the stones of fortune teller.

2-We believed that God is a group of Aliens (extraterrestrals); not as the Holy Spirit who Created the Universe.

3-We believed that we all can be God.

4-In that time we believed in poligamy. Now it's forbidden by the gobern, so we left that belief.

5-In the secret teachings, the masters teach that Adan is God.

6-We believed that we can baptize for anyone who is already died.

Bible teaches that God (the father) is Spirit, and no one can see Him, and no one ever saw Him. Who saw the Son, he also saw the father. But Mormons doctrine, started because that boy saw the vision of God the father and God the Son together.

The 3rd testament was inspired by an Angel. This is absolutly opposite with Galathians 1:8.

Even they have many dosctrines that are Against the Bible:

-the think that black people are inferior to white people.
-they believe that Jerusalem gonna be in America.

In one of the verses of teir 3rd Testament, there are sheeps in America. Everyone knows that in that time there wasn't sheeps in America.

I have more information, but i think this is enough for to be sure that they aren't CHRISTIANS, but a sect that uses our Bible for their purposes.

Well from what Chintawee has explained, I think you should be really firm with your faith whilst being among Mormons, Daniel!!!

Thank you so much, Chintawee :)

Christian is a broad title. I think it applies to all followers of Jesus. Catholics are Christians, too. Just like Jehovah Witnesses, the Baptist, the Coptics, etc. I didn't know that some Mormans believed that blacks were inferior to whites. I don't think that teaching came from Jesus. I think your Spirit will let you know if you can welcome your Morman friend or not. Yes, if some Catholics believe Mary never sinned, I think they are wrong because the Bible said Jesus was the ONLY human to do that.

Except as these have said, if you notice deeply in the doctrine of Mormon/LDS there is many things that contradict the Bible, including they teach that God was once a man that became a god, and that people can become gods and rule planets. They teach also that there are spirit children which are compared to angels that wait in heaven to have host bodies..

Joseph Smith was a silversmith/goldsmith, and he bought a lot of those precious metals before suddenly finding the "revelation" of plates. There is also a document in their doctrine that was based on a falses translated egyptian book of the dead that Joseph Smith bought. They do not preach the same Jesus of Christianity. Niether do Jehovah Witnesses. When we want to find if a religion is really Christian, it is good to look deeply at the doctrines and see what is truly preached in this matter.

John 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

We must find if a doctrine is truly teaching through the Jesus of the New Testament, or something else, and if they alter the doctrines or not. If what they preach is something in the Bible, or not.

Matthew 24:23 At that time if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or, 'There he is!' do not believe it. 24 For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect—if that were possible. 25 See, I have told you ahead of time.
